Applications are strongly encouraged from people with disability. The Australian Government strives to ensure accessibility for people with disability throughout the scholarship process from application, through selection, pre-departure activities, the on-award experience, scholarship completion and alumni engagement. Our aim is that all persons with disability are properly supported to enable their participation in the Australia Awards on an equal basis with all other applicants and awardees.

Australia has previously supported Filipinos with disability through the Australia Awards Scholarship. In 2011, Tassja Ramos, who suffers from spastic diplegia, was granted a scholarship to study at Monash University in Melbourne taking up double masters’ degree in Journalism and International Relations. In addition to full tuition fee and living allowance, the Australian Government also provided Tassja a mobility scooter and additional allowance for her carer to join her in Australia.
