A new batch of Filipino scholars off to Australia

Manila, Philippines – Thirty-four Filipino scholars have been awarded prestigious Australian Government scholarships to pursue postgraduate studies in Australia starting January 2023. Thirty scholars will pursue master’s programs under the Australia Awards Scholarships, while four will pursue doctoral degrees as John Allwright Fellows under the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research.
Officials from the Australian Embassy in the Philippines, led by Ambassador HK Yu PSM, and mentors of the scholars were onhand during the scholars’ pre-departure briefing and sendoff.
Australia Awards are prestigious, transformational scholarships and short courses offered to emerging leaders from developing countries for study, research, and professional development in Australia and the region so they can return home and contribute to their nations’ growth, prosperity and resilience. Through Australia Awards Scholarships, Filipino scholars will implement a re-entry action plan (REAP) upon their return to the Philippines, which allows them to apply their learnings in Australia to meaningful projects that will contribute to the development of their respective organisations or communities.
Reymond Pepito, founder and chief executive officer of Collective Plus Business Consultancy in Davao City, will take up a Master of Marketing Communications at the University of Melbourne. He intends to help empower cultural artisans in Davao de Oro by promoting their products. “I am determined to use the best practices, principles, strategies, and business models from Australia to add value to our current socio-economic landscape here in Mindanao and integrate the most feasible methodology for the successful implementation of my REAP.”
Meanwhile, Myza Maglagui, a Senior Human Resource Specialist at the Civil Service Commission (CSC0, will pursue a Master of Human Resource Management at the University of Newcastle. She plans to use her learnings to develop a handbook on operations for the Bulacan field office. She “[looks] forward to growth and new opportunities, networking, cultural interaction, and collaboration with other international students.”
Filipino scholars will pursue programs aligned to priority areas such as public health and social protection, governance and public policy, trade and economics, digital economy and cyber security, among others.
These scholars will join the dynamic Australia Global Alumni community in the Philippines at the conclusion of their studies.
