Filipino development leaders seeking to pursue a master's degree in Australia will have the chance to apply for the 2022 intake of Australia awards Scholarhsips - the prestigious postgraduate scholarship program of the Australian Government to the next generation of global leaders for development.
The Australian Embassy recently awarded 16 recipients of the 2020 Australian Alumni COVID-19 Response Grants Scheme. The program provides Australia-educated Filipinos with the opportunity to help respond to the emerging needs and challenges brought by the COVID-19 crisis. Seven (7) recipients will implement development projects to build resilience and support recovery efforts in communities impacted by the pandemic, and nine (9) will conduct research to contribute to the limited body of knowledge and literature on COVID-19.
The Australian Government, through the Australia Awards and Alumni Engagement Program – Philippines (AAAEP-P), in collaboration with The University of Queensland (UQ), is delivering a short course on Gender, Equity, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Mainstreaming to key Philippine civil service agencies from June 2020 to March 2021.
Over 150 Australia-supported Filipinos recently gathered virtually to discuss how they can use innovation and their influence to help the Philippines recover from the challenges of COVID-19. With the theme Innovators and Influencers: Making an Impact to Recovery, the 2020 Alumni Network Summit aimed to prepare the mindset of the alumni community for 2021 and inspire them to collaborate with peers in their respective industries to help the country map out its path to healing.
Kritizia Santos is an Australia Awards alumna with a clear vision of pursuing her goals. Through her Australian education, she was able to fulfill her passion of inspiring positive change in the field of volunteerism and
social work.
Kritzia completed her Master of Social Work from the University of Melbourne in 2013.

Virginia Rabino completed her Graduate Certificate in Human Resource Management at the University of Newcastle under Australia Awards Scholarships (2016-2017).
She has been working at the National Council on Disability Affairs since 2012 starting as Administrative Aide IV and now she is currently working as Administrative Aide VI at NCDA’s Technical Cooperation Division.
Before working for NCDA, Virgie worked for other organisations that cater to the needs of persons with disabilities (PWDs) including Tahanang Walang Hagdanan, Leonard Cheshire Disability Philippines Foundation, and Philippine
Council of Cheshire Homes for the Disabled.
As an engineer, Neilsen’s Re-entry Action Plan (REAP) was to push sustainability and environmental consciousness to our public roads and highways. In collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Neilsen
was able to complete his REAP which was to create the first asphalt road in the Philippines made with plastic bags that was constructed in a heavy traffic national road in Taft Avenue.
Neilsen completed his Master of Environment and Sustainability from Monash University in 2018.

Filipino scholar Ramon Carlo Pio Roda recently completed his Master of Commerce in Enterprise System from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Business School at the top of his class. He received the UNSW Business School Dean’s Award for his top performance in his master of coursework program. We asked Ramon Carlo to share more about his Australia Awards journey, which he described as “transformative.”
Ramon Carlo Pio Roda is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Virata School of Business.
The DOSCST Board of Trustees (BOT) recently elected Dr. Roy G. Ponce as the 5th SUC President of Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology.
Dr. Ponce is a two-time alumnus of The University of Melbourne in Australia, where he completed Master of Assessment and Evaluation and Doctor of Education in Evaluation Capacity Building through the Australia Awards Scholarships.
