The university experience! I genuinely enjoyed being a student despite the challenges. I appreciated Australia’s work-life balance culture, the way setting personal boundaries is seen as normal, and the accessibility of beautiful outdoor spaces like beaches and parks. Australia’s efficiency and my interstate travels also made my time in Australia even more enriching.

As Filipino scholar, what are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of sharing my journey as a human rights lawyer during my completion ceremony speech, where I spoke about what inspired me to pursue this path. Despite the challenges in human rights and access to justice in the Philippines, I take pride in the resilience and strength of Filipinos who continue to support and uplift each other.

I am still committed to being a human rights lawyer, but now with an Australian twist. I have been inspired by how the Aboriginal people and the LGBTQIA community are honoured and accepted in Australia. I am now committed in representing the Indigenous communities as they struggle for self-determination and their ancestral lands and the LGBTQIA community as they struggle against discrimination.
